Instituto MECHNIKOV Employees Vaccinated

13 May 2020

Instituto Latinoamericano de Biotecnología MECHNIKOV (a subsidiary of SPbSRIVS in Nicaragua) held a flu vaccination campaign for its employees and their families in May. The vaccine was produced at the Institute facilities.

Preventive influenza vaccination minimizes the risk of cross-infection between healthcare workers and people at risk of COVID-19 infection.

The WHO document “Guiding principles for immunization activities during the COVID-19 pandemic”, published on March 26 this year, notes the importance of preventive influenza vaccination. Other preventive measures taken in the Institute during the pandemic include wearing masks, temperature checks for employees and visitors, frequent hand cleaning and disinfection in the facilities.

Instituto MECHNIKOV has become a new milestone in cooperation between Russia and the Latin American countries. This Russian-backed project opens up unique opportunities for enhancing the healthcare standards all over Central America.

As of today, Instituto MECHNIKOV is the only certified biotechnological enterprise in Central America and boasts its status as the regional manufacturer with a capacity of up to 30 million doses of influenza vaccine per year.
