Cuban Minister of Health visits SPbSRIVS

During the visit, the Cuban Minister of Health got acquainted with the Institute’s potential for technology transfer. Also, Dr. Roberto Morales Ojeda visited the influenza vaccine production. Minister of Health of Cuba Dr. Roberto Morales Ojeda, Vice President of the Cuban state company BioCubaFarma Dr. Mayda Mauri Perez, Representative of BioCubaFarma in Russia Dr. Idania Caballero and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Cuba to Russia Emilio Lozada Garcia, and Andrei Vasiliev, Deputy Director of SPbSRIVS for Economics and Finance discussed the issues of bilateral cooperation in the field of biopharmaceuticals.

The visitors at SPbSRIVS showed interest in the experience of technology transfer for influenza vaccine production to Nicaragua (a project by the Instituto Latinoamericano de Biotecnología MECHNIKOV). The plans to enhance the product range of the Nicaraguan enterprise received special attention. While getting acquainted with the influenza vaccine production, the Minister of Health of Cuba, Dr. Roberto Morales Ojeda, highly rated the manufacturing process kept up with the best international practices.

In June 2017, the First Russian-Cuban Medico-Pharmaceutical Forum held in Havana (Cuba) became the ground for the SPbSRIVS and the state company BioCubaFarma to sign a memorandum of understanding. The document became another step forward in cooperation between the specialists of the St. Petersburg Institute and their Cuban colleagues.
