The press service of the FMBA of Russia informs that on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum on June 15, a meeting of the co-chairs of the Intergovernmental Russian-Nicaraguan Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation - the head of the FMBA of Russia Veronika Skvortsova and the Minister of Finance and Public Credit of the Republic of Nicaragua Ivan Acosta took place.
Veronika Skvortsova thanked the Nicaraguan delegation for participating in SPIEF’2023, as well as for active participation in the Eurasian Economic Forum and the XI International Meeting of High Representatives.
During the meeting, the sides noted the high results of bilateral cooperation. The parties highlighted the positive results of joint work in the field of healthcare, thanks to which the supply of Russian immunobiological and pharmaceutical products to Latin America and the Caribbean is steadily increasing.
The head of the FMBA of Russia recalled that during the March visit of the delegation of the Republic of Nicaragua to the Russian Federation, an intergovernmental agreement on non-energy applications of peaceful atom was concluded. The signed agreement will contribute to the implementation of the plans of the leadership of Nicaragua for the high-tech development of medicine, improving the quality of life of the population and improving the export characteristics of local agricultural products.
"Our teams have already moved on to a substantive discussion of joint projects in the field of non-energy applications of nuclear energy. We expect that this year the relevant contract documents will be signed for the implementation of projects in Nicaragua for non-energy applications of nuclear technologies, such as the creation of a center for nuclear medicine, a multi-purpose radiation center and a training subcritical assembly," Veronika Skvortsova added.
In turn, the Nicaraguan side expressed readiness to strengthen inter-parliamentary cooperation, as well as to develop cooperation in the field of mass media, culture and education.
"We are here to strengthen our relations with Russia and participate in the creation of a new world order. Nicaragua is a very important landmark in Central America, and we would like to emphasize that we are a partner of Russia in the region," Ivan Acosta, Minister of Finance and Public Credit of the Republic of Nicaragua, said in a return greeting.
At the end of the meeting, the parties agreed to intensify efforts to establish a system of financial payments, establish logistics schemes for the supply of products, and the participation of Russian companies in the implementation of infrastructure projects in Nicaragua.
